Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Officer’s role is to protect the health, safety and welfare of Independence Township by ensuring that the Township Code of Ordinances and Zoning Ordinance are enforced.  Code Enforcement is handled on a complaint-basis.  The following issues are enforced by the Code Enforcement Officer include, but are not limited to:

  • Land Use Regulations
  • Illegal Signs
  • Property Maintenance
  • Noxious Weeds
  • Parking in the Yard
  • Garbage/Debris

Code Enforcement Reporter
is an interactive way to file a complaint using your mobile device, tablet or desktop computer.  You can login to the application with your social media credentials.  To remain anonymous, login as a guest.  Once in the application, select the type of complaint, then Submit a Complaint, then enter details, photos, and the address or use your mobile device's GPS to get the location.  Click Submit and your complaint will be sent to the Building Department.

Additionally, residents can contact either the Building Department at (248) 625-8111, Option 2 or the Planning & Zoning Manager, Brian Oppmann to file a complaint.
