The Planning Commission is a non-political seven member body comprised of residents and other stakeholders of the Township. One member is a Township Board member. All of the members are appointed by the Township Board. The Planning Commission reviews land use issues such as Site Plan Review, Rezoning of property, Special Land Uses, Planned Unit Developments and other matters dealing with land use. The Opportunities 2030 Master Plan sets the long term vision for land use in the Township.
All Independence Township Planning Commission Meetings are held at the Independence Township Meeting Room, 6483 Waldon Center Drive, Clarkston, Michigan, 48346 at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month and with the fourth Thursday of each month reserved as needed, except as modified, as indicated below. In the interest of following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) guidelines to minimize the chance of exposure to COVID-19 by avoiding gatherings and practicing social distancing, the public will have the option to attend the meeting virtually via Microsoft Teams.
