Dog Licenses

Dog licenses may be purchased at Township Hall from December 1st through June 1st. After June 1st, delinquent one year dog licenses can be purchased through Oakland County Animal Control for $33.00.

How to purchase a license

Independence Township Town Hall Valid rabies vaccination certificate required. 
Three year license must coincide with a three year rabies vaccination.
If your dog is spayed or neutered, proof is required.

Participating Veterinarian Contact your veterinarian to inquire about dog license sales.


Michigan state law requires that a license must be purchased within 30 days of the following events. Failure to comply may result in a misdemeanor ticket. 

  • Purchasing or acquiring a new dog
  • A puppy turning 4 months of age
  • Becoming a Michigan resident
  • The expiration date of the prior license. Licenses expire on December 31st of each year.


Oakland County Park Permits           

2022 Oakland County Parks annual vehicle permits (map) are available beginning September 27, 2021. You may also purchase a combination Parks Perks Pass which includes Huron- Clinton Metroparks (map). Permits are valid through Dec. 31 of the year printed on the permit.

*As part of the Oakland County Parks 2020 Millage Initiative, off- site locations will not be selling Oakland County Resident- Senior, Military, Veteran, or Adaptive passes as those patrons are eligible for a complimentary pass. For more information on this, click here.
